The largest US mobile carrier Verizon Wireless today unveiled the Pantech Breakout, a $99 smartphone that runs on the 4G LTE network.This isthe cheapest 4G phone on Verizon till date. The Breakout runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and offers a 4. inch WVGA display, “custom Pantech widgets”, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording, VGA front-facing camera, 1GHz processor, and an 8GB memory card pre-installed. The Pantech Breakout will be available on Sept. 22 in Verizon Wireless Communication Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com for $99.99 after a $50 mail in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will receive the rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted.
Customers that purchase a Pantech Breakout smartphone will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 for monthly access and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.

LG and Sprint have announced their next collaboration, the Marquee, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset that marries both style and substance. Making its debut smack dab in the middle of New York Fashion Week, the $99 handset features a 4″ NOVA Display, 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. You’d be forgiven if you thought we were talking about the Optimus Black seeing as how it’s essentially a Sprint-branded version of the handset. Additional specifications include 512MB RAM, 2GB ROM, and support for Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), GPS, and Bluetooth.

At Google I/O this year, the newest version of Android was officially announced. Codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, it aims to bring Honeycomb features to phones, Gingerbread features to tablets, and everything in between. The official announcement left us without a firm release date — only that it would be released in Q4 of this year.
The only phone we know that is widely expected to run Ice Cream Sandwich is the Google Nexus Prime, rumoured to be being put together by Samsung.
The October / November release date is likely to make next years Mobile World Congress a total Ice Cream Sandwich fest, with major manufacturers like HTC and Samsung sporting devices powered by the new OS.
